What’s in the box:
7″ PowerTune Digital display
12v to 5v step down converter
CAN cable to connect to your ECU (where required)
GPS module
CAN I/O add-on – See below
CNC billet aluminium surround, anodised pewter
Mounting bracket, tabs, gusset and seals
Detailed installation instructions with template

CAN I/O:
Supported factory or aftermarket ECU (Supported ECU’s)
CAN I/O allows additional inputs to be shown on the dash, without being transmitted to the ECU. Allowing for additional data without the need to upgrade or re-program the ECU.
The CAN I/O and ECU can both be input to the dash at the same time

No ECU or unsupported ECU
CAN I/O is required to transmit data to the dash

Unit Install:
Detailed installation instructions and a template are provided with the unit.
Minor trimming of the dash is required to fit the unit and some welding is required to mount the unit in the vehicle.
All modifications are covered by the dash surround.

Keep an eye on our YouTube channel/Facebook page for an upcoming wiring demonstration video

Due to the number of different configurations, we keep a limited stock of the Powertune Digital displays.
There may be a few days delay in shipping should your chosen configuration not be in stock

Dash (CAN) vs Tablet (OBD2)

To understand the advantages we first need to understand how each system operates. Typically an app with run through an OBD2 protocol, whereas the PowerTune dash runs through CAN, the difference;

OBD2 being serial can only send/receive 1 message at a time, taking approximately 50ms per send/receive. The more data requested the longer the delay, this results in a lag between the actual data and what is displayed on the screen

Conversely the high speed CAN system can refresh (on average) approximately 4 sensors per 1ms, with multiple send/receive messages at a time.

The table below shows the refresh rate of the CAN vs OBD2 system for the number of sensors (send/receive requests)

# SensorsRefresh Rate (ms)
CANOBD2
10.2550
20.5100
30.75150
41200
51.25250
61.5300
71.75350
82400
92.25450
102.5500
112.75550
123600
133.25650
143.5700
153.75750
164800
…
6716.753350

To put all of this into context the human eye can see at approximately 60hz = 60/sec = 16.7ms per image. So it would take 67 sensors on a CAN system to result in any detectable delay, while even just 1 sensor on the OBD2 system already has a noticeably delay.
